Bicentenario

UX · UI · Website Design

Client: Guatemala.com

Role: UX/UI designer

Team: Plaga, IT team and me.

Branding: Plaga

Year: 2021

Overview

🇬🇹 You can visit the live landing page: here

Guatemala celebrated 200 years of independence on September 15th of 2021. For that reason, Guatemala.com launched a campaign that commemorated our country’s emancipation highlighting our culture, traditions, inner tourism activities, gastronomy, identity, among others. Basically, the best 😎🇬🇹

Understanding the problem

Guatemala.com lacked an informative landing page that could provide information about what the Bicentenario is, why and how we are going to deliver exceptional and valuable content during this year of celebration for our Guatemalan users.

Process

Our team jumped in and defined the website as a scroll landing page and its few sections:

  • Home

  • About

  • Curated Content Categories

    • Characters

    • Gastronomy

    • Culture

    • History

    • Tourism

  • Video content

  • Sponsors

Based on information architecture, I could move on to creating the screens for desktop and mobile, figure out which layout to use and how to distribute the content.

All visual assets, branding, color palette and so on were provided by the amazing team of Plaga! #BigFan.

My first set of deliverables were mobile screens with fun layouts and the usage of the first branded elements. There were not that many, so we commissioned more visual assets that represented Guatemalan elements, traditions, food, and so on.

The following icons were made for the curated content categories, left to right: Iconic Guatemalan Characters (Nobel Prize Miguel Ángel Asturias), Gastronomy (Atol de elote and a chuchito), Culture (Big kites flown for Nov 1st in Sumpango), History (Train; there used to be trains back in the day), and Tourism (El Gran Jaguar pyramid from Petén). Branding & visual assets: Plaga

Plaga did an amazing job on developing more visual elements for each category.

Home screen for desktop. One thing you must know is that Guatemala is a land full of volcanoes and beautiful valleys. Did you know there are around 32 volcanoes officially recognized? However, there are more of them. You can read more about unofficial volcanoes here 🌋
